Juno DSL FAQ

What is Juno DSL?

Juno DSL is a new service featuring broadband access to the Internet - at speeds faster than conventional dial-up. DSL is an "always on" service, meaning you don't have to use the software to dial-in to connect - just open your web browser and surf!

Juno DSL service comes bundled with:

  • Norton Antivirus Online to protect you from threats and viruses
  • MegaMail with built-in Spam and Email Virus protection
  • Pop-up Blocker to prevent unwanted pop-up ads
Juno DSL service also comes with a 30-day money back guarantee* and free technical support.

If you are already a Juno DSL member and would like to check which service level and connection speed you have:

  1. Click on the My Account tab on the Juno DSL Web site or visit http://account.juno.com/s/account.
  2. From the main My Account page, select Account Summary.

How fast is Juno DSL?

Juno DSL provides speeds up to 50X faster than standard dial-up**.
It means much faster web pages loading and no problem with large email attachments and media files.

What affects my connection speed?

Your DSL connection speed is subject to several factors, most of which are beyond the control of either you or Juno. These include (but are not limited to):

  1. The distance from your home to the closest DSL switching station.
  2. The condition of the wiring in your house.
  3. The number of users currently on your home network.
  4. The internal configuration of your computer.
  5. The server speed and congestion of the Web site you are attempting to access.

Will Juno DSL affect my phone service?

No, Juno DSL service should not affect your phone service at all. Even though your modem uses your phone line, it makes use of a higher frequency band than the one used by phone for voice communication. Just plug in the special DSL filters (provided in the Broadband Installation Kit) between your phone and the jack to make sure your regular phone calls don't cause interference with your modem signal.

What happens if I move?

If you move, the first thing you will need to do is ensure that Juno DSL is available at your new address. Simply provide your new home phone number (including area code) in our service availability form, then click the Check Availability button.

If you have any questions regarding the transfer of your Juno DSL service, you can call our customer service line at 1-888-213-9093.

I'm using Juno Dial-Up. Can I keep my email if I upgrade to Juno DSL?

Yes. Upgrading from a Juno dial-up account to either Juno DSL service will not affect your current Juno email account. Both your member ID and password will remain the same, and you will use the same information to log-in to the Email on the Web, your My Account page, and all other areas of Juno.

Do I need a second phone line?

No. Juno DSL uses a different signal or channel than your phone for voice communication, so you can surf the Internet while talking on the phone - all on one line.

Will Juno DSL tie up my phone line?

No. DSL allows you to connect to the Internet and make phone calls at the same time. This means you can still talk on the phone, send a fax, or get messages on your answering machine while you surf the Internet at the same time.

Can I change my phone number to get one that qualifies for DSL?

Unfortunately, no. Your DSL service is not based on your phone number, but on your distance from the switching station. Simply changing your phone number will not have any affect.

Will my current phone features work with DSL?

Yes. Even though Juno DSL service uses your existing phone line, it uses a different signal or channel than your phone. This means you can still talk on the phone, send a fax, use call waiting, get caller ID, or get messages on your answering machine while you surf the Internet at the same time.

Will I ever get busy signals when connecting to the Internet using Juno DSL?

With Juno DSL, getting busy signals while trying to connect are a thing of the past. That's because you don't have to dial-in to connect - Juno DSL is an "always on" service. From the moment you start your computer, you are connected to the Internet.

Is my computer safe with Juno DSL?

If you practice safe surfing while on the Internet (such as using a firewall and anti-spyware software), and don't enable file-sharing with Windows 98, your computer should be as safe as it is with dial-up.

However, it is good practice to always assume your computer information is at risk, and to use password protection and caution when surfing Web sites. As part of your Juno DSL package, you will also receive Norton AntiVirus Online for free. Norton Internet Security Online is also available for an additional cost. These programs offer additional protection for your computer against Spam, phishing, viruses, hacking, worms, and other dangers.

The Juno DSL modem also provides additional firewall protection.

* Available only if you cancel your Juno DSL service within 30 days from the date your broadband line is activated. Must return the DSL modem and all related equipment to Juno in good working condition within 30-days of your broadband activation to receive refund of monthly charge and activation fee paid to Juno.

** Connection speeds depend on many factors including, but not limited to, distance from DSL switching station, number of users online on your home network, your service level, and individual server restrictions.
