Online ISP
reviews. How helpful they are?
[ Follow this guidelines to rise your chances in choosing the
right ISP ]
In order to find the best ISP people often rely on the
online ISP reviews. There are many sites with online ISP
reviews, written by their users.
But can you trust them in your own choice of ISP?
The answer is NOT. At least NOT at 100%. Especially it pertains
to nationwide ISPs, because they use different local networks
and modem pools (for dial-up).
But why? Well, most of these reviews are some kind of
negative, because they are written by users, disappointed for
the reasons of speed, support and reliability. Reading all of
this reviews can easily lead you to the conclusion that all
ISPs are bad, but it's not true! People who are happy with
their current ISP simply do not post any reviews at all. So,
you can't make right decision using only online ISP
reviews.
Let's look closer to the aspects of speed, reliability and
support.
But first of all remember the fact that reviews from
users living in your city are more valuable and useful
than any others. It's especially true for local ISPs. So
another thing you must pay attention on is the area of the
reviewer. It's not always possible, because some users don't
share their area and email.
ISP speed depends on many factors,
including local and global networks loadings. For dial up and
xDSL connections it also depends on the quality of phisical
wiring between your phone jack and ISP equipment. So if
someone, living in other city, reports about slow speed, it
doesn't mean the same will be in your city.
ISP reliability - the same as above.
Tech support is an aspect you may have the
most valuable information from online ISP reviews. Pay
attention if there are many users reported about bad tech
support! Some nationwide ISPs use tech support services
localized in 3rd countries. Their employees often can answer
only a limited number of questions and sometimes have bad
English. It's important if you are a newbie or use
"non-standard" internet applications.
