Dialup ISP
reviews
[ Dialup ISPs as the most low cost Internet access ]
While the era of dialup access passes and more
people get broadband, seems like dialup ISPs will be here in
the foreseeable future. As analysts predicted, there will
always be a dialup market.
The reasons are:
-
Some users have access only to analogue phone
lines. As example, there are hotels that still
don't offer wireless internet and where dialup
ISP maybe the one and only solution.
-
Dialup is the most low cost (from $5/month), easy
to use internet access and...
-
there are tasks (like email-only) where dialup is
preferable for its cost.
-
There are free dialup ISPs like NetZero that offer
free internet access and (be sure!) it makes them
money from banner ads.
-
Dialup ISP may be used as a backup solution in the
cases of basic broadband ISP down or travelling.
-
Dialup is a good choice of seniors and
people with fixed or limited income.
-
Some rural areas still have little access to
broadband and when they do its expensive, so until
they get broadband somehow there will always be
some dialup users.
-
Dialup is fine for people who don't need
online gaming, MySpace, YouTube, music
and video downloading. It's OK for users
who only need to keep in touch with friends and
family and to read some news.
"It's important for you to remember that despite
many projections to the contrary, dial-up is not
dead. In fact, some industry observers predict a
decrease in the rate of dial-up decline going
forward due to the saturation of Broadband and the
high cost of bringing Broadband to rural areas,
many of which we don't think will ever get it.
There are millions of Americans, particularly in
these difficult economic times, who want internet
access, but for whom Broadband is either a luxury
or just unavailable."
Mark Goldston, President and CEO of United
Online, Inc. |
The proof that dialup is not dead is appearing
of dialup oriented services like V-Global that
offers to route long distance calls over their VoIP network.
With the V-Global Long Distance Dialer dialup speed is enough.
Combined, it leads to very low cost international and long
distance calls.
Another interesting device is WiFlyer - the portable wireless
access point that offers WiFi connectivity to dialup ISP users
without having to change ISPs or go to broadband.
Dialup connection is the most basic way to
access the Internet by connecting with a computer and a
modem to an ISP (Internet Service Provider). The modem
dials a phone number when Internet access is needed. Dial
up connection is typically a lot slower than a high speed
connection like digital subscriber line, or DSL. Due to
technology restrictions, the maximum data transfer rate
that can be achieved with a dial up modem is limited to 56
Kbps, or 56 thousand bits per second.
When you access the Internet using dialup connection, the
speeds will vary based on a variety of factors, including the
following:
• The speed and type of your modem.
• The quality of the phone lines in your area.
• Computer configuration.
• The amount of traffic on the Internet.
• Server and router speeds of the Web sites you access.
