Comcast Cable sets monthly
bandwidth limit
Comcast Cable, the largest cable-based ISP in the U.S., will
limit residential customers to 250 GB of bandwidth a month
beginning Oct. 1.
The new bandwidth cap will affect less than 1% of Comcast
customers, because most of them use 2-3 GB monthly.
Comcast will contact customers who go above the 250 GB limit
and ask them to curtail their use, Comcast said. If a customer
goes over the monthly limit again during the following six
months, Comcast will suspend service for a year.
Currently, Comcast Cable contacts high-bandwidth customers
and will suspend their accounts if they don't curb their use,
but it has not set a firm bandwidth limit until now. Most
customers contacted about their bandwidth usage agree to limit
their activity.

Comcast Cable promising
ultra-fast Internet
"We're about innovation and having the best network," Chief
Executive Brian Roberts told The Associated Press in a preview
of his speech at the Consumer Electronics show on Tuesday.
Roberts is expected to demonstrate a technology that
delivers up to 160 megabits of data per second: It will allow
him to download a high-definition copy of "Batman Begins" in
four minutes. The technology, DOCSIS 3.0, will start rolling
out this year.
"If it's as successful as we hope, in 2009 and beyond we
will have it available in millions of homes," he said.
Robert hopes the speed-up will boost growth of Comcast's
broadband
service, which has been slowing.
